Happy Birthday Dan and WOYWW 143

Happy Birthday Dan....

A few weeks back I made this card for my son's birthday.  The inspiration for this card, other than Dan's birthday, was this paper.  Dan lives in San Francisco and the lighthouse, the whale, the colors all said....I left my heart....where?  You got it!  I think my favorite card to make is the easel card.  To me the card looks like a gift.  The papers are Webster's Pages the petite papers, the Market collection.

You know, it's Wednesday and I'm addicted....check out Julia's site and see what everyone's desk is looking like...It's WOYWW - 143.   I'm working on a birthday card for my buddy Brenda.....This desk is a bit of a tease for her, as I know she'll sit trying to guess what is under the Under Construction sign...well Brenda...it's your card!  Now, will she be wondering if the items she sees on the desk supplies I'm using to make her card...Now Brenda....that's to keep you guessing!  I will give her one hint....the photo below might be something I'm using on her card....Note....I said might!

The flower is one of my newest flower dies....It's the scalloped die from Memory Box and the leaves are also Memory Box.  Pretty cool, I'm thinkin!

The other day I was reading posts to Facebook, when my son's buddy Brian posted the below photo.  I've got to tell you, I've seen this look before and the photo really made my day.....
I hope this photo puts a smile on your face.....

Have a great week....enjoy the time you spend with friends, and if those friends are with you crafting...All The Better!

See everyone next week!

I'm Cooking....Tomorrow I'll Be Crafting

Ok...so where's the card?  A friend and I are working on a blog page for our group of Weight Watcher gals, and we've been struggling with posting the recipes that we've saved as Word files.  So after trying pretty much everything....I came up with this...I am hoping that it works...So, about the recipe...It's one I made while trying to come up with a use for all the cabbage I'd bought....It's really tasty, healthy and easy!  If you try it, let me know what you think!

I'll be posting a photo of my desk in the morning....I need to tidy it a tad...cause it is a mess.  I'm working on a Birthday card for my buddy Brenda and I know she checks out my blog....so, I've got to hide the card!
Fried Cabbage – 0 points PP
This is a real no-brainer recipe. It was created because I had a half a head of cabbage and didn’t know what to do with it. I’d had cabbage in soup, and in salad, but I wanted something more of a cold weather comfort food, so this is what I did……

½ head Cabbage
1 tsp Trader Joe’s 21 Spice Seasoning (I used 1 tsp, but you can add more or less to taste)
¼ cup Stock (chicken, beef or veggie)
PAM

I lightly sprayed a large frying pan with PAM and heated the pan over med-high heat. I added the cabbage and started stirring. You want the cabbage to brown but not burn….that’s where the stock comes in. I used Chicken stock. Add a little at a time, you aren’t making soup, just using the stock to keep the cabbage from burning. When the cabbage is wilted and cooked through…..remove from heat and eat. My husband loved it. He was a bit apprehensive at first, but tried it and was pleasantly surprised.

Note: The Trader Joe 21 Spice Seasoning is fantastic!

March Already? Well Almost!

I forgot to ask Karen if there are any more openings for this class - If you are interested, give her a call, when I last checked there were two spots available.  A reminder the class is:  Monday - March 12th at 1:00 PM.

I'm finished making kits for the April class, I'll have the cards posted  right after I show them to the girls in the March class.  Here's a little sneak peek at one of the cards:

One of the cards is Get Well and the sneak peek is an All Occasion Card.  I'm trying to stay ahead of the game.  I'll be visiting my daughter and soon to be son-in-law in April,  I'm looking forward to a mommy-daughter week.

I'm thinking today I need to get my house cleaning act together.  I've been fighting a cold and today I've decided it isn't going to win....I am....so, off to clean house and ignore old Mr. Cold.

Have a most wonderful week.

Wednesday Means - WOYWW-142

Yes it is Wednesday and that can mean only two things...."Hump Day" for those who are slaving away at your day job and WOYWW 142 for this ole retired gal.  So here's my workdesk
So what's this?  My son's birthday card is hidden under the blue cloth.  I'm not sure he reads my blog, but on the off chance he does.....he'll see it next month.  Well, since this isn't so exciting, I guess I'll share something I purchased this week.  I was at Paradise Scrapbook Boutique on Monday and Karen's first CHA order arrived....it's Anna Griffin papers.  I love them!  These are the ones I purchased:
I love the florals and the stripes go so well with them.  But look at this:
I wish you could feel them....the embossing is wonderful and the papers are amazing.  I doubt these two will make it to a card....this is hoarding material!

It's mid-night here in northern California, I think I should think about putting my computer to bed and head that way myself.

Have a most wonderful week.  I'm hoping to spend part of tomorrow checking out all the great desks at Stamping-Ground.  My son's birthday is March 4th...I'll put his card on my blog as soon as he sees it.
Hugs to everyone....Glitter Grammy

Heart Candle the answer to my WOYWW Challenge

I've been working on trying to make a candle holder from the Memory Box heart dies and last night, while I was sleeping, this idea came to me.  Trust me, since Wednesday I've cut several and they have all landed on the cutting room floor (ok waste basket).  The problem I was having is how to stand it up.  My daughter suggested angling the hearts, which didn't work,  I tried cutting the point off, no luck.  I tried a 1 inch band to adhere the hearts to, not so good.  Then, in my sleep I thought of my Martha Stewart Heart border punch.  The first one was hearts along the top, flat on the bottom.  It held the dies upright, but didn't look as pleasing as I wanted.  Then I thought, how about making the hearts as little legs and as a decorative top to glue the dies cuts to.  I like it...yes I do.  What do you think?  Now, I can move on to something else.  Don't you hate it when you have an idea and you can't rest until you have a solution?

Have a wonderful weekend.  We are MAYBE going to get rain, and since we need it so desperately... I'll be happy when and if we get a down pour.

See you all next week.....Happy Crafting.  I think I am going to link this to WOYWW  After all, that's where this thought began.

Hugs to all,
Mary

WOYWW-141 Close Your Eyes....it's a mess

I made this using my new Memory Box Heart Dies.  Karen just got a whole new supply.  I told my husband it is his Valentine card.  I don't think he was nearly as thrilled as I am....

Ok, so now on to the desk.  It's a mess, not as bad as it has been in the past, but still a bit of a mess.  Are you ready?

Pretty bad....but I did it.  And as soon as I finish this, I'm going to go tidy up a tad....and start a new mess.  I'm going to try to make the hearts into a candle holder.  Think I can?  I'll let you know.

Ok, here's a favor I'm asking   A friend of mine has just entered the world of blogging.  She's a Weight Watcher buddy who spends time in the kitchen creating wonderful point pleasing recipes.  I know it would thrill her if you stopped by her blog and said hello.  This week is National Pizza Week in the US and she's posting a recipe for Crock Pot Pizza Soup....she's tried it, I'm trying it later this week....she said it's wonderful and she's never been wrong (at least not in my book).  Her name is Lynda and her brand new, blog page is:  Our Own Weigh.

Off I go....Have a great day,
Mary

A Smile

Earlier today I posted a photo of a Christmas card I made following a sketch by Christmas Challenges with Sketches.  Check it out on my previous post.  I thought it would be fun to make another card using the same sketch, but this time using pastel colors and patterns.  I have several (actually more than several) snippets left from making my kits for my March class at Paradise Scrapbook Boutique.  As you can see.....I did finish my little card.  I have a friend who I think might just enjoy receiving this card, she's had some challenges lately and a little smile card might just bring one to her face.  All the snippets are from We Are Memory Keepers - Cotton Tail Collection.  The die is a Spellbinder and the sentiment is from Gina K Designs.  The bling is from Want to Scrap - Say it with bling.

I'm going to link this to What's On My Workdesk Wednesday and Pixie's Crafty Snippets Challenge .  I'm feeling really accomplished today....It's nice to have a productive day.

See you all soon....Have a great week,

What's On Your Work Desk Wednesday - 140

Well....here it is.  I spent the day playing in my craft room, enjoying the rain through the window and chatting with my daughter and friends.  This morning I went to Butler's Abroad to see what she's been up to.  I saw she had entered a card on Christmas Challenges with Sketches.  I liked her card and thought I'd give the challenge a go....  Still using scraps (this time from Graphic 45 - Christmas Emporium 8x8 paper pad.  I like how it turned out, and it's flat so mailing won't be too bad.
I used the Spellbinder Beaded circle to frame the Santa graphic.  But wait....I felt it needed a bit of bling, so I cut gold mirror card stock using the Spellbinder Eyelet die.  I saved the die frame for later use and took the circles that were punched out.  That's what I glued to the frame.  I also used these circles to decorate one of the inside frames.

How could I not pass this on to Pixie's Crafty Snippets.... this is becoming a favorite playground of mine.

Of course it's always my Wednesday haunt to post on What's On Your Work Desk Wednesday and check out what Julia and the gang are up to.

Since this is a Christmas card....I thought I might just enter Crafty Hazel's Christmas Challenge after all, I love my dies and that's the challenge to use a die.

Thanks again to Butlers Abroad...I found Sparkles Christmas Challenge.  Another fun blog to check out and I'm headed there next to do a bit more peeking around.

I guess if I'm going to see what everyone is up to....I should get moving.  I may be away from the computer for a few days.  My son and his partner are coming on Friday, tomorrow my buddy Lynda and I will be working on recipes we can share at Weight Watchers and Saturday....it's an all day Valentine Crop at Paradise Scrapbook Boutique....oh, let's not forget Monday is my February Card Class.....whew, I think I need a nap....

Thank You Lei

I made this card for an angel, one I've met only through email and on the telephone. She works for Making Memories.  A week ago I was attempting to order a part for my Making Memories paper trimmer.  Cyber space was not cooperating and no matter how hard I tried, my order would not go through.  I emailed the company and that's when I met Lei.  She was most helpful, and though I probably sounded like a crazed woman, she remained calm and told me all would be well.  And guess what...today in the mail arrived my order....and a special treat.....So, thank you Lei.  My Making Memories paper trimmer is a favorite.  I'm sooooo very happy to have her back in tip top shape.  For those who are not familiar with the trimmer...below is her photo.
I've had this trimmer for about 8 years and "she" is an important part of my craft tool family.  If there is a customer service award (and there should be) Lei certainly should receive one.  Thank you Lei for going above and beyond.

A bit about the card I made for Lei.  I'm in a use scrap mode (thank you Di).  Some time ago I decided to change the way I save scraps.  When I finish a project, I keep all the scraps with the collection of papers...then when I need them, they are all together and they all go together.  Makes my card making much easier.....I made a card quite some time ago and I really liked it.  Today when I was thinking about papers for Lei's card, I remembered my scraps....and now you know the rest of the story!

Last week, I was making a card for Di's scrap challenge and also for the Rudolph challenge.  Well guess what.  I had scraps left from the scraps.....and I made this card from what was left over.  I have two full sheets of card stock left and I'm feeling a need to hoard them.  If anyone knows where I can get more PLEASE  let me know....It's BoBunny Gift of Love and is from 2010.  Here's the card:
I'm off it's time for bed and I'm off to dream about what else I can do with scraps.  I hope you find a bit of time to stop by and check out Pixie's Crafty Snippets Challenge .....

Here's what I've been working on.  Karen is going to say I'm too prepared, but in fact....I'm trying to get ahead as I'll be spending some great time with my daughter Amy in April, and then my best buddy and I are going to take a month to travel half way across the US to get to Amy's wedding, visit family and see all the sights that our husbands groan at when we ask to stop....hey the biggest ball of twine is on my bucket list!  I wonder where it is!  I hope it's somewhere on I-80!

So, the above photo is my March class.  The class will be making one of the cards, but the kit will contain two sentiments so they can choose which one to make.  I really had a good time making this card.  I love BoBunny card stock and this card is made using the Cotton Tail collection.

Now let's back up and see what my desk looked like....ok, maybe it was a bit more messy, this is what it looked like when I was putting the kit, in the first photo- left side, together.

Backing up a bit more....here's what my prep area looked like as I was cutting the kits  I think this card has about 30 pieces.....

So here they are...all packed up and ready.  Ten kits, that's how many openings there will be.  I know this class will fill up quickly....so a hint to my regular craft buddies....sign up early.

So, that's my desk for today.....I'm headed over to my favorite Wednesday blog and link this to Stamping-Ground.  I hope you have a few minutes to check out what everyone has been up too.  I've had a very productive card week.  I've got to say...Julia keeps me focused!

Have a great week....see you next Wednesday....

Hugs,
