Sparkles Christmas Challenge Feature A Creature

I know everyone must be thinking Easter.....and so am I, but....Christmas is also in my thoughts and this month the Sparkles Christmas Challenge is Feature a Creature.  Thank you Helen for this fun challenge.  My little creature is this cute little deer graphic from Splash of Color #30691 Greetings * Decked out Collection.  It is an older piece pulled from my stash.  I couldn't tell you what year.  My die cut border is a retired Poppystamps die, which I really really love.  It is called Zig Zag Knit #949.  I layered all on a cranberry colored card stock and layered it onto white.

This was an easy quarter fold card to make....and I really do like it.  I love the combination of red and white.  Sadly, because of the layers, it will require extra postage, which is pretty normal for handmade cards...right?

I'm working on a Christmas Album, which with any luck at all might actually be done by Christmas... So I guess I should get back to it.

Have a wonderful Easter and a creative April.  Sending wishes for health, happiness and love....

Happy Spring

Today I'm playing with paper and celebrating Spring.  I like fussy cutting and this card is most certainly a fussy cut creation.  I used the Graphics45 Season's Collection.  I made this card for my sister, Becky.  Winters in the mid-west can be harsh and Spring is a season everyone looks forward to.  She looks forward to getting outside and playing in the yard.  I thought of her as I planted my paper garden.

I'm looking forward to making tons of card for all the seasons with my 12x12 paper pack.  To make my card, I cut pieces from these papers.....

The piece I used from this page should be pretty easy to find...The framing piece might be a bit more difficult...Just think pieces and parts....Do you see it?

My bird graphic should fly right out at you.....did it?  And Bless This Nest....How ever did it get below the nest?

And then I added bits and pieces from this page and did a bit more fussy cutting from the two previous pages and I think my card is finished and almost ready to mail.

I just needed to finish the inside..... Nothing fancy,  and room to write a note.  Of course I had to add a die....this one is from Memory Box, it's an older one, but much loved.  It is the Valencia Border and it is from 2012

For my local followers....if you want lovely spring and March papers and embellishments....check out Paradise Scrapbook Boutique which is located inside Ever After on the Skyway....

Until Next time....Happy Crafting and Happy Spring!

Happy Birthday

Are you surprised?  It's not a Christmas Card!  In truth, I have been making loads of cards, however, I can't show them yet because they have been made for birthdays that have not yet happened..So, for now, this is one I can share.

This is, if you haven't guessed, Blue Fern Paper. The Heartland Collection.  Locally you can find these papers at Ever After in the Paradise Scrapbook Boutique booth.  You just might find this card there too.

I'm always asked where did the inspiration come from?  Actually, lots of places.  I follow other paper crafters blogs, I follow through Pinterest and most often, I am inspired by those around me.  I am also inspired by parts of a piece of decorative card stock.  For this card I was inspired by a portion of the card stock.  The two lovers.  I fussy cut around them and started pulling embellishments that I thought would look pretty with them.  I decided to make a square card 6x6.  One of the papers in the Heartland collection was the perfect background.  Next came the torn piece that allowed the graphic a place to sit, but I needed something to separate the graphic from the background....doilies are perfect to add separation.  Next I gathered flowers to make a bouquet.  I added seam binding that I'd sprayed with water to get a crinkled effect.  I needed a sentiment, and I chose Just Rite Happy Birthday and cut it from gold paper.  When I began assembling, I thought the card looked too flat and needed something more.  I added the leaves behind the bouquet.  Nice but something more needed to be added. Can you see the gold bits in front of the doily?

I'm not sure what it is called.  I bought it to add glitz to my tiny Christmas tree.  I think it's perfect for this card.  If you want to know more about it, Kim at Ever After could put you in contact with the vendor selling the product.  It doesn't look like this when you purchase it, it looks like a cord, but when you stretch it, this is what you get. I like it!

I still wanted to add something vintage to this card, so I created the cameo and placed it below the ribbon.  The frame of the cameo is from Epiphany Crafts and it started it's life silver in color.  I didn't want silver with the gold, so I colored it using Spectrum Noir alcohol ink pens.  The graphic was cut from one of the pieces of Blue Fern card stock.

Well, that tells you what I did to create the front of this card.  Now for the inside.....

The photo isn't the best, but I think you get the idea.  I used parts of the same card stock.  I like giving my sentiments a place to sit.  These little envelopes are a great place to put gift cards.

Most all supplies for this card were purchased at Paradise Scrapbook Boutique.  I hope you enjoyed reading about my little creation.  I love reading other blogs about how something was created.

I'm off......I'm sending you wishes for a most happy day.  I hope you find time to sneak away to create.

Hugs from my world to yours,

Two posts in one month....I am on a roll!

Hello and can you believe it....I am on a roll.....2 posts in one month.  Really though, I am sad that I am not doing many more.  I am creating.  I just don't seem to find the time to show what I've made.  So, here goes.

A group of gals try to get together on Thursdays.  One Thursday I teach a class.  One Thursday Karen teaches a class and two Thursday's a month we play.  Yesterday was a play day.  I went planning to work on an album, but I was distracted by new product.  Can you believe that...distracted!  Kaiser Craft has a new line and this paper is called Mademoiselle.  One side of the paper is patterned and one side has great graphics.  You can see which one I chose.  I used another on the inside but you'll see that in a bit.  Karen also brought Foam fronts into the shop and I couldn't say no to the oval.  There are about 4 other shapes....don't worry, I'll be making more of these.  Anyway.  She also has lovely bottles of buttons, pearls, sequins and seed beads.  The colors all go so well together and the accent color of blue added perfect interest.  I added a few flowers, some ribbon and bling and this card is done.  Well the outside is.

Here's what I did to the inside....

The Graphic side of the Kaiser Craft paper made the perfect sentiment.  I love it when cards come together quickly and this one did.  The tiny little flower paper is also from Kaiser.

Here's a link to Karen's blog  I love it that she has so many beautiful papers and ribbons (lots of other beautiful things too).  Paradise Scrapbook Boutique

Here's a link to her FaceBook Page:  Paradise Scrapbook Boutique - FaceBook Posts

I guess I should think about my post for Sparkles Christmas Challenge.  That is coming up quickly.  So, until next time....Happy Crafting.

Hugs from Me to you,

Happy Birthday Damon

HAPPY BIRTHDAY DAMON!  My oldest is having a birthday.  I won't give his age as he might comment with mine!  I always have a problem creating cards for boys and men.  I purchased this card stock quite some time ago.  I loved it when I bought it, and then couldn't decide what to make with it. Recently, I was at Paradise Scrapbook Boutique  and saw this anchor die (Spellbinder Inspire).  Everything clicked....and I knew exactly what I would create for my son.

I die cut the Happy Birthday (Poppystamps) and the anchor.  I cut them on a mirror silver card stock and I didn't like how shiny it was.  It made the anchor look too new.  So, I dabbed clear pigment ink on the dies and covered them with a thick silver embossing powder.  Heated them and this is the result.  I like it!  I used a collection of Fabscraps papers and I love them.  Sadly, I've looked everywhere and I can't find this collection.  I think everyone must have liked it as much as I did.  I used tiny jewels and some clear dots and the front of this card is finished.

I saw this format on Splitcoast Stampers.  A very talented gal named Norma Lee created some cards using this format.   This is what I made.

This is a time consuming card, but one I'm sure will be in my favorites for 2015.  See the coin bits?  I have no idea whose dies these are, but you emboss first and then die cut.  I then inked the papers to get this coin color.  The pieces I used for decoration are all from the paper collection.  More tiny jewels, which my friend Brenda gifted me some time back....thank you Brenda.

Ok....I was gifted with three sons and a daughter.  When I saw this paper, there was a graphic that I knew I had to use.  Normally the back of my cards only have info about me and how to contact me.  When I saw the graphic, I knew I needed to use it....here goes ladies...Meet my three sons!

I'm sure my sons will be pleased with this.  Knowing that people don't always look at the back of cards, I added a raised clear dot so hopefully Damon will wonder what got stuck to the back and have a look.

Time to get busy chasing dust bunnies.....I've been a bit lax of late.  My dust bunnies have multiplied and it's time to chase them down.  So until next time.....

Happy Crafting, Hugs from my world to yours.

November Card Class and Blog Blitz

I know November is the month that kicks of the best Holiday Season of the year, that said, I decided to take a little break from holiday cards and create a card for my November class using the new Fancy Hello by Poppystamps.  FYI, there is a blog blitz going on over on the Poppystamps Blog page.  Check it out....there are lots of prizes and all you need to do is comment.

Don't worry, I've also created a quick and easy Holiday card.....
Can you believe how quickly the year is flying by?  I know we are all in hyper-drive right now, that's why I wanted to offer another card that can be quickly cut and easily assembled.  If you are interested, give Karen a call 530-895-0505.  Class begins at 1:00 PM on Nov. 12th.  If you want to see both cards, they are on display at Paradise Scrapbook Boutique.

Off I go....I'm addressing Christmas cards today....I started making my cards in January of this year.  I've made 103 to date....that's like a record for this ole gal!  I'm debating on whether to write a Christmas letter.....are you Christmas letter writers?  Like them?  Hate them?   Hmmmmm!

July Card Class

It took awhile, but I finally decided on what cards to make for my Christmas in July card class.  I really fussed over this card.  It started as blue and red....but it was pretty dark.  I'll bring the original to class.  Today I finished this version and I like it.  I hope you do too.

And here is the second card...
A technique or two and you'll have two more Christmas cards to add to your 2014 collection.  When:  July 9th. at 1:00 PM.  Where:  Paradise Scrapbook Boutique.  Be sure to call Karen and let her know you'll be attending.

A few months back, I challenged my girls to go home and design a card.  I jokingly said, your homework is.....well, Cindy took me up on my challenge and this is the BEAUTIFUL card she made..
Thank you Cindy for the kind words enclosed and thank you too for taking the time to create this beauty.....Cindy said, sorry it's taken so long, but honest I did do my homework on time.  Cindy will not have to serve detention.....she became a Grammy and a bit sooner than she'd planned.  Seems her granddaughter was in a rush to meet her!  Congrats Cindy, being a grandma is the best!

That's it for me....tomorrow will be my turn to post using the new Poppystamps dies.  Trust me, the dies are gorgeous!  Lots of Christmas, Halloween, Fall, and some Summer too.  I hope you check in tomorrow.  My blog will go live at noon on the  Poppystamps Blog.

See you Soon!

National Scrapbook Day at Paradise Scrapbook Boutique

I made a card to celebrate National Scrapbook Day....I forgot to post it....ok, another year, another few brain cells missing!  So, here it is....
I love the window dies, and I purchased the cake dies from Karen some time ago.  I made a card similar to this one a few months back and when I saw the Melissa Frances Every Day Is A Holiday paper line, I thought it's time to make another Sweet Shoppe card.  Here's the inside....
By now you know I love dies.  Karen is carrying a new line, one I'd not heard of...The company is Little B.  I love the sentiment dies and they are perfect for cards....not too big and not too small.  Does this sound like what baby bear might say?  As you can see, I'm using Little B, Spellbinder Poppystamps and Memory Box dies....One can never have too many dies!  My husband might not agree!

Back to National Scrapbook Day Celebration....I forgot to take my camera and worse than that, I forgot my phone had a camera....so, I took no photos.  I'm hoping someone posts  photos, I'd love to share.  It was a fantastic 2 days of crafting.  Pizza and salad party on Friday.  Lots of snacks and goodies on our table.  I gave a demonstration on the Spellbinder tool that the bits out of the dies (exact name not known...hey, in my tool excitement, I threw away the packaging!)  Anyway it works and it works EXTREMELY well! I demonstrated it on a Cheery Lynn Doily die there must be 100 or more little pieces that need poking out of the metal die.  They fell out with no effort....none at all!  I am Jazzed!

Saturday started with breakfast with the girls.  I shall not share the conversation, but it was about baseball....Many technical questions were answered!  Some needed follow-up!  Then to Karen's to find out that our desks had more goodies and there were donuts and coffee and sweet treats.  Our set of tables had 8 girls 3 of whom I did not know.  Within a few hours we were all laughing like school girls as we crafted away.  I'm not sure if any of us finished many projects, but we sure had fun.

I hope my thousand words created at least one picture for you.....looking forward to the Christmas crop.  I hope to see everyone there and maybe, just maybe, I'll remember to take a photo or two!

Off for now.  Catching up on posts and designing today.  Tomorrow it's off to crop with the Monday group and a day to celebrate Cathy's birthday!

Hugs from me to you!

Card Class for May

A card in a box is certainly becoming a favorite.  I've had requests to teach this card and so I shall.  I first saw the card in a box on Di's blog page, Pixie's Crafty Workshop.  So, thank you Di for inspiring me.

My second card is quick and very easy.  The girls will love this one.  I know I do!
It easily converts to birthday, or get well.  I'll bring stamps or if you have a favorite, bring yours.

I was told the class is sold out.  But two lucky people can sign up...I've found enough cardstock to create two more kits.  Let me know if you are interested.  I'll let Karen know.  Reminder to those already signed up.  Class will begin at 1:00 on May 14.  Have you checked out Karen's Blog lately?  How about her Facebook Page?  Oh, what about on Pinterest.  If you go to:  http://paradisescrapbookboutique.typepad.com you can find all the links there.

That's it for now, the 25th  is Rudolph Day...I need to get moving and finish my cards.  Hope to see some of you there.

Off for now....
Hugs from me to you,

Sunny Days

Well, I think Spring is here.  I guess I should hold off until Mother Nature confirms my prediction.  We've gone from snow one day, to 70 degree weather the next.  So, maybe Mother isn't ready to give us warm spring days.

It's my day to show my creation on the Poppystamps blog page.  This is what I made.  I've had fun playing with the Sunflower dies, the outline and the base.  And butterflies, well nothing more needs to be said about my love of these little beauties.

A month or so ago, I attended a two day album class hosted by Karen.  The guest designer was Marion Smith of Marion Smith Designs.  She brought a product I've become quite taken with.  It's a gold foil and it comes in a 12x 12 sheet.  After embossing (Cuttlebug Embossing Folder)  the background, I lightly rubbed a white glue (Baste It) over parts and put the foil over it.  Pretty accent I think.  I did the same to the outline of the butterfly.  The sentiment is computer generated.  If you'd like to know the names of the Poppystamps dies, you'll just have to head over to the Poppystamps Blog page.

Have a most creative day and may your weekend be extra special.  It's baseball season here and I'll be watching my San Francisco Giants play ball.  May the force be with them!  Of course I'll be making cards too!

Until next time....Hugs from Northern California!

Layers, I've Got Layers!

I love the art on decorative napkins.  I've had several requests to teach this method and I have done so in the past.  When Chris made the request with this beautiful napkin in hand, what could I say.  Ok, I'll show you how.  As of this moment, I've not kept my word.  Honest Chris, I will show you how and soon.  Another friend, Brenda, sent a link to a video of adding glitter to graphics.  After watching the video, I thought....hmmmm I know I could do it easier and quicker.  I did and I shall share in one word...Xyron!  The gold glittery piece behind the graphic was a find at Paradise Scrapbook Boutique.  Yesterday, I made a quick trip down the hill to buy one thing.  I came home with a bag full of newly added yummy finds.  I must say, I was mesmerized by the bling!  I now have it in silver and gold and there were lots of other colors too.

Ok, a challenge this month on Christmas Stampin' All Year Long is to use layers.  That challenge was my inspiration for this card.  I love layers and if you looked at my card from yesterday's post, I am also trying to create pretty cards that won't break the budget when posting them.  Today's card will thrill the postal workers as it's not going to be mailed using one 1st Class Stamp!  Six layers on the outside and more on the inside....
Thank you Chris, and Brenda for motivating me.  And thanks to Christmas Stampin' All Year Long for giving me that extra little push!

Happy Crafting, Hugs from a very sunny Northern California!

A Quick Note On April Class and Just Playing

Happy Monday and it is for you I hope.  My honey is under the weather with gout... :-(  But he's being a real trooper!  Hoping today will be the worst day and tomorrow he will feel so much better.

I wanted to let everyone know, the April class is now filled.  Karen has a waiting list, but in truth, this group of girls rarely cancel.  This is one of the cards (the card on the left).  Yesterday while Brenda and I had our girls play day, I made the card on the right.  The same, but different.  The image on the right is slightly larger, I forgot to check the box when printing and this is what printed.  Waste not, want not...right?  Because the image was larger, I couldn't fit the sentiment on the bottom, so, I moved it.  I didn't have off white pearls, so I colored them with my Spectrum Noir pens.  I raised the doily, used different papers and the outside is done.

The inside of this card is different than the card class inside, so I shall share.  The entire card took 1/2 of a 4 x 8 piece of decorative cardstock, plus the base and frame.  So, here's the inside.....
Isn't it fun doing the same but different?  Well, I'm off to baby my honey....have a most wonderful day.

April Class - Sweet Choices

I was showing the girls the "It's A Girl" card and I was asked if this would be my next class.  Since I was racking my brain for ideas I agreed.  Well, in looking around the room I could see that not everyone wanted a baby card.  Hmmmm how could I make this an Easter card or a baby card. The photos tell the story.

For this class you will be given a choice of baby or Easter.  Bring a sharp scissors for a bit of fussy cutting.  You may also want some pop dots, glue  and your normal paper crafting supplies.

Now for something a bit different....the second card is one that I will be posting on the Poppystamps blog page.  That page won't go live for awhile, so I don't want to post the card here first.  Karen has the card and if you'd like to see it, you'll just have to drop by Paradise Scrapbook Boutique.  I think you will really like this card and if you like using dies, glitter and pearls, you will love it!  The class is the second Wednesday of the month....I hope to see you there.  Remember, you need to reserve your space, and kits are limited.

Saving the best for last.....I have some bragging to do.....My friend Jeanne  has a card featured on the COVER.
That's big, that's really BIG and I am very proud of her.  Isn't this card B-E-A-U-T-I-F-U-L!  Now when you look at the March edition you can say, I know that talented artist!  Don't tell her I said this, but she not only is a very talented paper artist, she is one of the sweetest people I know and she's been so very helpful to me....she's paper talented and computer savvy!  Congratulations Jeanne!

That's it for now......until later,

What A Weekend

Hello....it's show and tell time.....I spent Friday and Saturday at Paradise Scrapbook Boutique with a group of very crafty ladies....
Sorry gals, there were so many I couldn't get everyone in the photo....Anyway, in this photo we were working on a hard covered album and we were sewing the signatures.  Here's what I did.  It's not finished, there's more I want to do to the cover....
And here's Marion showing us how to make the flowers we used on the cover.  She has a "Tool" and trust me, you are going to LOVE, LOVE, LOVE  it!
You can't see the tool in this photo, but you can see it and a video if you go to her webpage.  Here  and if you want to see the cover of her book, which is gorgeous....check it out on Karen's page Here

And I couldn't miss a shot of me with a celebrity.
. We also made this cute and I've got to say surprisingly easy album.  Mine of course isn't finished! I need to decorate the cover with flowers and other embellishments, but I promise (myself) it will be finished soon.
and here's the inside.  Tons of pages......
I don't know if you can see the gold on the edges and on the cover, but it was made using a really cool product.  Of course I had to have that.....

Anyway.....It was a fun weekend, and I'm so glad that I went.  For those of you who know me, I've been blessed (not the word I really use) with sciatica  and sitting or standing for any length of time is a real pain in the, well you know where!  I almost cancelled, but after 3 days of chiropractic help, I was able to stay long enough to get the basics finished and now it's just decorate!

I had a great Monday with the girls and I made two Sunburst cards from the snippets left over after making these two albums.  Check it out tomorrow as I'll post them then.

Thanks for visiting, I hope you check out Marion and Karen's links.  It was such fun learning something new.

Hugs to all, see you soon,

What's On Your Workdesk #248

It's Wednesday and we all know what that means, "Show Your Stuff".  Well maybe not your stuff, but what your desk looks like.  And after you post your desk, be sure to link to Julia's blog.  After all, we all want to see what you've been doing.  Here's the link:  WOYWW 248.

Wasn't that easy?  I think so!  My desk looks pretty uneventful.  I'm putting together kits for the March class at Paradise Scrapbook Boutique.  I wanted to have everything done before the weekend because I'll be spending Friday and Saturday with Marion Smith of Marion Smith Designs.  Marion will be teaching a room full of gals.  Check out Karen's site to see what we will be learning.  I can hardly wait.  I understand Marion will be sharing her new tool for making flowers.  I'm a tool crazed crafter, so you know I'll for sure need to have one.

Back to my desk, I'm working on some projects for a design team I'm on.  I'll be able to share on the 14th, and my projects on the 16th and the 25th.  Heads up, there will be prizes so mark your calendar.  Can you see the projects?  Oh no you can't....they are hidden just out of the frame.

I've been spending quality time with the Chiropractor.  Seems this ole body doesn't like sitting in the court house for 8 hours a day.  I've never had back issues, so I'm not enjoying these new pains.  I'm learning all about what nerves go where.  Who knew your back was attached to your foot.  Well, I do now.  So, I'm moving a bit slow, but hoping to be up and running very soon.

We are finally getting rain.  Not enough yet, but Mother Nature is trying to catch us up.  Loving every last drop of it.   Are you ready for a nature shot?
This Stellar Blue Jay took advantage of a break in the rain to have a bit of lunch.  Isn't the bird feeder beautiful?  My daughter, Amy and her husband, Linn, gave it to us for Christmas.  I love it, and I think Mr. Jay might also.

That's it for now.  See you again soon....or at least that's the plan.  Until later,

Hugs

March Card Class at Paradise Scrapbook Boutique

Here they are.....
Here's card number 1.  I'm loving using the fence and always love butterflies.  This one is very easy to cut and I'm sure you'll find tons of ways to use up your bits and pieces.

And here is the second card.  I really like how this one turned out.  Maybe it's the glitter pieces.  I kind of like glitter you know.
I've been called for Jury duty, so tomorrow I will be up with the chickens and off to court.  I've been buzzing around trying to have everything in order before I go. I guess I'd best get back at it.

The class is March 12th from 1 to 3 (or later if you need more time).  Call Karen if you are interested.  FYI, I sent an email 2 hours ago and the class is now 1/2 full....just sayin!

Hugs to all,

The opening page Shows Santa with his bag full of goodies for all good girls and boys.  The next photos show the opening pages.  The top photo shows the page flap closed and when it's opened there is room for those first great family photos.....and then there is room for many, many more....

There are tags and lots of them.  The tags fit in pockets hidden in the pages....
and this is the back side of the tags.....
The cover is from Tim Holtz, The pages were mounted onto hidden hinges and covered with beautiful designer paper from the 6 1/2 x 6 1/2  St. Nicholas collection by KaiserCraft.

I think Karen and I did a good job putting  our heads together, and it was fun creating memories as we created this Christmas Album.

Speaking of Karen.  In addition to all the great prizes being offered,  Look what Karen is offering to one lucky person.  This prize is separate from the others and it's Karen's way of  wishing Sparkles Christmas Challenge a Happy Anniversary.  The only people who will qualify for this sweet prize are those who leave a comment on my blog page.
One person will be randomly chosen  to receive all 5 packages of these lovely Christmas embellishments...remember, you have to comment on this page.  Don't forget to play along on the Sparkles 3rd Anniversary blog hop for chances to win even more prizes.  If you are the winner....You'll be notified on February 28.

I'd like to personally thank each one of the wonderful sponsors for their most generous prizes.

Until later, Good Luck and Hugs from my world to yours....
