Can You Say FIELD TRIP?

Before I take everyone on a field trip, I want to express my deepest sympathy to Linn and Amy.  Linn's mom passed away on Saturday.  I want the kids to know, she'll be dancing on a cloud at the wedding.  Also one of my long time friends and volunteers at the Sheriff's Office passed.  Irene will be missed by all.  I made identical cards for both. 

Both ladies loved their children, loved their homes, both were excellent bakers.  I think they both would have enjoyed each other's company.  I used snippets for everything but the base.  The patterned paper is from My Mind's Eye.  I used a Sizzix Beaded Ribbon Embossing folder.  It's my newest and fast becoming a favorite.  Of course there is a Spellbinder die and the sentiment is from an old Stampin-Up set. 

Now.....on to the Field Trip......grab your jumpers and lets get moving.  Everybody in a line...let's get going.  Are you ready?

This is a photo I took from my front porch as I was leaving.  Spring in our yard is absolutely fabulous.  All the colors.  The tress are Dogwood and a fruitless plum.  The tree is a cedar, a bit too big to see the top!

Carolyn and I got to the shop first (nothing new there!)  We usually come early and leave early.  We were too early....PSB wasn't open yet!

The first thing I did was see what was new and what I HAD to add to my collection.  Lots of new Memory Box dies too.... I've been saving my milk money for these items.....

Leesa and I.  We're ready to settle down and work on the projects we brought.  Carolyn and I decided that we bring too much and finish too little.  Must be because we spend lots of time shopping, and chatting, and eating.

Here we are all hard at work....

And here she is.....the gal that makes this all possible.  Everyone.....meet Karen!  I don't think many of us know the work that goes into these crops.  Especially this one and the Christmas crop.  Deb, Rachiel, Shell and Pam are her little helpers.  Good job girls! 

This is just one of the yummy snacks we had.  Karen had breakfast rolls and coffee ready when we arrived.  Then cookies to snack on.  Dinner was wonderful.  Landon (her son) barbecued ribs and we had roast beef and salads and bread and fruit....of course there are no photos of this, as I was busy loading my plate and forgot to take them....bad me! 

And then.....oh yes there were desserts!  Of course Carolyn, Leesa and I did not partake as we are on Weight Watchers....and if you believe that, I have some swamp land to sell you....we're being good the rest of the week...

A good time was to be had by all, as my childhood social section of the local newspaper would print.  Again, thanks to everyone at Paradise Scrapbook Boutique who made this day so special.  It's always a fun time and Karen really knows how to celebrate National Scrapbook Day!

I can't forget a quick shot of the babies.  Aren't the two that are lined up too cute.  One peeking over the other.  We are on Crow watch today.  We caught 3 of the filthy "B's" trying to raid a Robin's nest.  We were lucky to scar them off.  They better leave my babies alone!

Workdesk and Snippets and Class....Oh My!

Ok, so here's what was on my workdesk last.....

Today is Wednesday, a day I'm always looking forward to.  Another week of seeing what Julia has been up to and a chance to peek in on all the creative folks that I've meet through Julia.  So, take a minute to visit Julia and if you have a few more minutes, check out what we've all been up to this week.  My tag for Cheryl...I probably won't see her until May, but this is for her.

I started my day getting organized.  I decided to tidy up all the snippets left over from the card kits I made for my May class.  I'll have lots of Christmas snippets left, so lots of cards in my future.  Maybe I can pass out snippets on the playground...Speaking of snippets, my tag is loaded with them.  I've had the flowers in a box on my desk for months.  I did add Perfect Pearls to the centers.  The doily has been in my stash for years, it's one of those things were you buy a package of them and then 10 of the 12 sit for years waiting for a home.  The scissors, the flourish and the small doily center and the butterflies were all cut from snippets left over from card kits from days gone by.  Don't you just love the scissors....I sure do....I'm going to link to Di's Snippet challenge.  I hope you hop on over and check her blog out.  And if you have snippets, and I'm sure you must, you might want to skip through the fence and play with the rest of us. 

Doesn't that look tidy....I thought so....but then after I put them in my snippet file(s), I thought I need to get busy and get a tag made for a gal who made a beautiful tag for me.  I was quite surprised by the gift of a tag from Cheryl.  She's such a talent and at the beginning of our last all day crop at Paradise Scrapbook Boutique, Cheryl handed me this tag....

Her gift of kindness made me feel so good.  The entire time spent with everyone made me smile.  Thank you Cheryl.... I'm not a great tag creator, but I wanted to make a tag for Cheryl.  I named my tag Hope.  Cheryl fought through a serious health issue and during her entire challenge, I always saw hope.  Thankfully, Cheryl fought through it and I think I will always see her face when I hear the word HOPE.

I showed you my snippet organizing desk....now let me show you what my desk looked like as I was making the tag for Cheryl...

When I see the mess my granddaughter makes when she's crafting....I have to giggle...I think she inherited that gene from me....Well, to show her that Grammy cleans up her mess as soon as she's made it....(well most of the time)  Here's my cleaned up desk....at least clean until tomorrow!

News about out Blue Jays.  There are at least 4 eggs and maybe even 5.  I've only been able to get a photo of 3 eggs, but we have seen the tip of  4 of them and we think we've seen a glimpse of a 5th.

Pixie's Crafty Snippet Challenge Number Thirteen

Something old, something new, something borrowed....nothing blue!  Geez, where did that come from.  I was looking at the photo and it came zipping into my little brain.  Pixie's Crafty Snippet Challenge is becoming a favorite place to play.  Check out her blog page and maybe you'll want to skip into the playground and play with all of us.  So, here it is, my snippet card for this week.  The base of the card stock is BoBunny, and it isn't a snippet.  It measures 6x12 inches.  The next layer and the remaining card stock are snippets.  The suede is actually a green color, although it doesn't look green in the photo, I use this a lot on Christmas cards and this is the last piece I have....more is being ordered by Karen, so I didn't feel bad using it.  .  The doily is an old one, probably been in the doily drawer for 5 or 6 years.  I just never have found a place for it.  Gotta love paper doilies....The lattice egg was cut using my Gazelle electronic machine and the base of the egg was traced onto a piece of glitter paper.  The bunny, she was a gift from my buddy Virginia.  She's die cut and if you follow my blog, you saw her on my desk top on Wednesday.  The eggs were die cut using the Memory Box Egg dies.  The back egg has tiny flowers that were cut from the ribbon and glued on.  The flowers were purchased at Karen's (Paradise Scrapbook Boutique).  I am addicted to these flowers.  I added the purple bling in the top right because the area looked so empty.  You can see just a corner of the inside and it was cut using a Martha Stewart Deep cut border punch. 

Our little Blue Jays have been busy putting the finishing touches on the nest.  It's been such fun watching the two as they work to make their perfect nursery.  It's kind of funny really, mom flies off to gather mud for the inside of the nest.  Dad is still bringing pine needles and scraps of paper and leaves.  If he brings something that isn't suitable, out on the ground she throws it, and chirps her disapproval...off he goes to try harder.  She uses her body to round and smooth the inside of the nest.  I tried getting a photo of her doing this, but I can't get too close to the window when she's working. 

The inside of the nest is pretty protected from view.  I stood on a chair to try to shoot down into the nest.  The reflections on the window make it a bit hard to get a good shot...I think they should be finished building soon, the nest is getting quite deep. 

If you click on the photo, you can enlarge it and it's easier to peek inside.  It's I'm impressed with the ability of these little creatures....they build and the only blue print is that of Mother Nature. 

Along with DH and I noticing all the building....the neighborhood cats, and our two strays, have seen all the commotion.  DH saw our neighbor cat laying under the bush waiting for the birds.  He dug into his stash and this is the temporary protection he's made for them.  It doesn't seem to have bothered the birds.  The cats don't look any too happy!

WOYWW - 146

As my DH would say....It's Wednesday somewhere and for the next 3 hours it'll be Wednesday here!  So, it doesn't look like a lot is on my desk, but let me tell you about it.  Check out Julia's blog and see WOYWW.... and if you haven't played along...give it a go, it's a great way to get in a creative state of mind!

I spent the day with Virginia and Kathy.  While Virginia was showing Kathy the ins and outs of her new Cricut, I was borrowing Virginia's dies....this is what I punched and as you can see, many little snippets must be removed before they are put on a card.  I'll be working on that as soon as I'm finished posting.  So...no finished card today, but hopefully I'll have a snippet card or two to put on Di's blog page.  Thank you Virginia for lending me the dies and I want you to know I had a great day.  I think Kathy is going to be very creative on her Cricut.  I'm looking forward to seeing what she makes. 

A little story...I don't have a Cricut, but I do have an electronic cutter, I bought one a few years ago at a Scrapbook Convention.  I chose this brand because I didn't want to have to purchase cartridges and I wanted it mostly for cutting letters and I wanted a large variety of fonts.  The machine has fulfilled those needs quite well.  A few months back I bought a new computer and I couldn't get the cutter to work.  I kind of forgot about it, being busy with other things.  Well last week I wrote to the company and they put me in touch with an angel named Terri.  What I needed was a new driver and she got me up and running quickly and was SUPER friendly.  So a shout out to Terri and a big thank you to BossKut.  Remember, I said I mostly do letters....I decided since the Cricuit girls were going to be cutting and piecing....I tried my hand at it.  So without further ado....Here's my bunny.  I have one thing to fix on it, but I think it's pretty cute. 

Spring excitement in our yard.  We have a Blue Jay couple feverishly building a nest in a bush outside our home.  I'm not getting my hopes up quite yet.  For the past two years the same thing has happened and both times the couple abandoned the nest, once leaving the eggs and once before they were layed.  So....here's our little couple and the beginning of the nest.  They were considerate enough to build in a place I can easily get photos.
